Winder-Shaped Staircases

Winder – Shaped Staircases

Comprising two parallel flights connected by a larger landing at the switchback, this configuration characterizes U-shaped stairs. They occupy less linear floor space, making them a favoured choice for corner layouts. Simpler in construction compared to helical or spiral staircases, U-shaped stairs are also space-efficient, minimising the risk of injuries in case of a fall. This design finds frequent application in high-rise buildings.
Considered a safer alternative to a single straight run of stairs, U-shaped stairs offer shorter distances to fall due to the presence of landings at the end of each flight. This factor holds significant importance depending on the intended use of the stairs.
